TRUST ROADS CONSULTATION WITH MEMBERS APRIL 2026

Members Meeting 30/04/26

Here are the member comments returned during the consultation session to address the Trust roads policy and issues.

-More staff needed to complete road repairs
-Repairs little and often
-Economy of scale regarding road materials
-Moral obligation for residents to observe speed limits
-Communicate with current sellers to clarify needs
-Fix most populated/high traffic areas first
-Would islanders be willing to contribute voluntarily towards cost of road repairs?
-Ask Royal Mail for a contribution
-The Trust should push for private householders to pay towards road repairs
-Private house owners should be aware of liability
-Quarry: Crush local stone for roads. Give builders option to use local stone.
-The Trust should prioritise tracks they have properties on.
-Local procurement is a positive move and keeps funds on the island and builds skills
-Cost each road
-Residents who are contributing to the local economy should be given special consideration
-A long-term planned fully costed maintenance plan is needed. Then require an annual contribution from privately owned properties.
-Take account of vulnerable residents who are unable to take on remedial road repairs

Many thanks for taking part in group discussions and coming up with all these ideas and suggestions. The Trust will now consider these contributions and come up with a plan which we will share with members before implementing.
